Cochran Jail Release Outcomes
The Cochran County Sheriff's Office operates the county jail and links its public Jail Report. That link makes the vendor interface the county-authorized online access point. Its word RELEASED means the displayed booking is no longer current county custody. It does not state where the person went. A bond, dismissal, time-served order, completed county sentence, or other court-directed event may lead into the community. A transfer can end the county booking while confinement continues elsewhere.
Four outcomes deserve separate checks. Community release is verified through the Sheriff event and the court order. A felony commitment may send a paper-ready person to TDCJ. Another county, federal authority, or immigration authority may take custody under a hold. A corrected or withheld record can also change what appears online without a new physical release. Treat the county status as a starting fact, then identify the event and next custodian.
| County record change | Next verification |
|---|---|
RELEASED after bond or court order | Sheriff release log and clerk disposition |
| County booking ends after prison commitment | TDCJ offender search and history request |
| Another hold or transfer appears | Receiving jail, BOP, ICE, or the named agency |
| Name simply disappears | Arrest-date archive, then Sheriff request |
Confirm a Cochran Jail Release
Use the same identity across each source. Name-only matches are weak, so retain the arrest date, booking details, charge, court, date of birth when appropriate, and any cause number. The current roster is positive evidence of custody at the time it was refreshed. It is not a historical release record. The arrest-date view is more useful after someone leaves the current list because it can preserve a released booking.
- Open Inmates by Arrest Date. Choose a From and To range around the arrest, then add the name if needed.
- Read the literal status. Save the arrest date, agency, charge, court, and booking identifiers. A released status still lacks the release time, reason, and destination.
- Ask the Sheriff's Office for the existing booking and release log entry. Request the release date and time, disposition, releasing authority, and any public transfer destination.
- Match the legal authority through the clerk. A bond, dismissal, judgment, sentence, or time-served order explains the legal result but may not show the minute jail processing ended.
- If the court shows a prison commitment or another hold, check the receiving system before describing the person as free.
A person who leaves the current roster has not necessarily entered the community. Confirm the event and any new custodian.
Cochran Jail Record Fields
The current roster displays a name and CURRENTLY BOOKED status along with sex, height, weight, a redacted address, arrest date and agency, days in jail, total bond, warrant and charge data, and an image area. The 24-hour arrests tab uses much the same booking layout and can already show RELEASED. Its window is based on booking time, not release time. The arrest-date tool adds From and To controls and a Court field, making it the strongest public web route for an older booking.
None of those screens publishes the full release event. The Sheriff record may contain the booking number, release date and time, release type, authority, and receiving agency or destination if those fields are public. Cochran County has not published a retention horizon or update schedule for vendor results. Do not rely on a promise that a released entry will remain visible for a fixed span.
- Release
- The end of custody by the agency named in the record. Another agency may immediately assume custody.
- Discharge
- The end of a sentence or supervision term, as defined by the responsible agency.
- Transfer
- A change of custodian rather than a community release.
- Detainer
- A request or notice that another authority may take custody.
Request Cochran Release Records
Send a focused Texas Public Information Act request to the Cochran County Sheriff. Ask for an existing record, not an explanation staff would need to create. Include the full name, a booking or cause number if known, and a narrow arrest range. Request the booking and release log entry, the date and time, the public release disposition, the releasing authority, and any transfer destination. Electronic copies are practical. Ask for an itemized estimate before costs exceed a limit you choose.

No fixed local release-record or booking-photo fee is posted. Charges can depend on pages, media, labor, programming, and volume under state rules. Government Code Chapter 552 calls for prompt production, but ten business days is not a universal delivery deadline. If the office cannot produce records within that span, the statute calls for written certification and a reasonable availability date. Exceptions may protect juvenile data, private identifiers, active law-enforcement material, sealed matters, or expunged records.
Cochran Court Release Proof
The Sheriff's event establishes what happened to physical custody. The court file explains the legal basis. Cochran's County Clerk and District Clerk pages identify the same Room 102 contact. Ask for the docket, final judgment or sentence, dismissal, bond or time-served order, and current warrant or capias status. A signed bond or release order does not by itself prove processing was complete because another hold may delay departure.
Felony matters generally belong in district court, misdemeanors generally in county court, and fine-only lower offenses may involve the Justice of the Peace. Verify jurisdiction from the booking's Court field rather than guessing. The District Clerk page supplies local access and nondisclosure forms. The publicsearch site is for recorded property documents, not a criminal docket.

Cochran Transfers to TDCJ
A local statistic shows why transfers matter. The Sheriff's statement in the county's 2025 tax-rate worksheet records 274 aggregate paper-ready inmate-days before state transfer. It does not mean 274 people, 274 releases, or an average stay. It shows that a court-committed person may remain in Cochran custody while awaiting TDCJ movement, then disappear from the county current roster when state custody begins.
If the court shows a state prison sentence, search the TDCJ offender system by SID or TDCJ number when possible. Name, gender, and race can help narrow a search. TDCJ warns that online data updates on working days and is at least 24 hours old. A no-result is not proof of community release. Its email history service can help when the online record is unclear or the person has fully discharged.
A Projected Release Date is a state calculation, not a completed release from Cochran County Jail. It can change with offense rules, time credits, parole action, and record audit. For a county bond-out, use the Sheriff record. For a state commitment, use TDCJ. That division prevents a county status from being mistaken for the end of all custody.
Cochran Courthouse Jail Setting
The jail, Sheriff, clerk, district court, Justice of the Peace, and adult probation contacts occupy different rooms at 100 N. Main Street. That co-location can make record routing clearer, but each office holds a different part of the event. Room B-7 is the Sheriff and jail route. Room 102 is the clerk record route. Adult probation is in Room 204. Calls should go to the office that created the record rather than to any courthouse room.
The Texas Historical Commission marker connects Morton county-seat status to Cochran County's 1924 organization. A historic account also describes interrupted courthouse and jail construction in 1925. Those facts offer context only. They do not establish present capacity, release hours, pickup rules, or modern jail operations. No official source supplies a fixed release-processing time, exit point, property-return protocol, waiting area, or weekend procedure. Ask the Sheriff instead of relying on statewide assumptions.
The official-source review found no separate municipal detention center, TDCJ unit, federal prison, or ICE detention facility in Cochran County. Arresting agencies can vary even though the county Jail Report is the local booking view. When a record names a new custodian, move to that agency's locator and records channel.
Cochran Jail Images and Status
The county-linked current, 24-hour-arrest, and arrest-date records include an image region. The Sheriff's site publishes no photo-retention policy, and no official jail mobile app or stable social release database was verified. A booking image documents an arrest record. It does not prove guilt, conviction, current custody, or release. Pair any photo with the status and the originating record.
The official Sheriff page and its Jail Report are the appropriate starting points. For a missing historical photo, request the booking photograph narrowly through the same records email. Texas Open Records Decision 616 required disclosure under its particular conviction and no-active-case facts, but it is not an unconditional promise for every booking. Current exceptions and court orders control.
The county roster itself provides useful visual context. The current Cochran County Jail roster shows how status and booking fields are arranged.

The layout helps distinguish a live custody entry from the historical arrest-date record needed after release.
Verify Cochran Release Destinations
Close the inquiry only after the records agree. A community release should have a Sheriff event and a compatible court action. A TDCJ transfer should align with a prison commitment and state record after the published lag. Another county or federal transfer requires that receiving agency's confirmation. VINELink may signal a custody change, but the Sheriff page and originating record establish the exact county event.
No single screen answers legal disposition, physical release, and later supervision. The court explains authority. The Sheriff records departure from county custody. TDCJ or another custodian explains what followed. Keeping those roles separate produces an accurate Cochran County Jail release account without turning a blank result, bond sum, or projected date into proof.
